Donald Gaul & Lilian Magee were married in 1949 in Hamilton, Bermuda. They were both born in Liverpool, England and met at a dance. Donald was a chef in the merchant navy during World War 2 and after the war, he became a chef on the Queen of Bermuda. This is when he asked for Lilian's hand in marriage from her father, William Magee, and that he would be taking her to Bermuda to live. Sadly, shortly after she left for Bermuda, her father passed away, she never got to say goodbye.
Lilian loved Bermuda and worked at the Elbow Beach hotel as a cocktail waitress and when she ended up pregnant with Marilyn, she went back to Liverpool to have her, so that she wouldn't be alone in case Donald was at sea. Marilyn was born in 1951 in Liverpool, England and then Lilian and Marilyn came back to Bermuda to live for a few years and then returned to Liverpool and opened up a shop in Bootle. By 1957, they had decided to emigrate to Toronto, Canada and settled there. Annette was born 2 years after they emigrated in 1959.
I am Annette Gaul, owner of this website and I welcome all family members!! Family meant a lot to my mum and it means a lot to me. I created this website in 2010 after a trip to Liverpool with 2 of my 3 children, Natalie and Nicholas to visit all my relatives as a 50th birthday gift to myself.
Enjoy!!
